Our Model

Local women journalists covering the world’s
most pressing problems.

Since 2006, Global Press has trained and employed hundreds of local women journalists around the world.

Together, our reporters have produced thousands of stories for an audience of local and international changemakers. Equipped with the access to information in our stories, these changemakers have gone on to change laws, educate communities and catalyze local movements. Our stories have given local people access to lifesaving information, and they have helped millions to see the world differently.

Today, our reporters and reporting fellows specialize their coverage on three of the most important issues of our time — global health, civil liberties and the environment. Our rigorous training, exceptional employment opportunities and robust editorial processes yield investigative and explanatory journalism designed to help people everywhere better understand the world and their places in it.

Here's how it works:

Step one

Global Press selects key global locations where our coverage areas are acute, underreported and connected to wider global trends. Within each topic, we publish editorial verticals that deeply cover one aspect of global health, civil liberties and the environment.

Step two

We conduct robust searches to hire diverse local women reporters and reporting fellows to staff each vertical. All Global Press reporters are from and live in coverage locations.

Step three

Reporters and reporting fellows receive full-time employment that includes high-quality compensation and benefits, access to our Duty of Care program and ongoing professional development. These supports enable the production of exceptional online, print, audio and photo journalism.

Step Four

Our unique audience development strategy ensures we reach the local and international stakeholders who need our stories the most.

Step Five

Global Press also offers certificate programs to large cohorts of journalists around the world to elevate expertise on topical coverage skills. Graduates join the GP Reporting Network. Certificate programs strengthen local media markets and increase the access to accurate and actionable news beyond our own newsroom.

Global Press tracks the impact of its journalism over time, using an original impact matrix that evaluates the role our training programs and news coverage play in
building a more informed and inclusive world.
